<p>Now 3 towels for the price of 2!</p>
<p>Wipe, polish, dry, and clean up spills with the new, innovative eco-friendly <a href="http://bambooya.com/bamboo-eco-towel.html">Bamboo Eco-Towel!</a></p>
<p>Made from 82% VISCOSE FROM BAMBOO and 18% GMO-FREE CORN, this light weight, super absorbent bamboo cleaning cloth and towel is durable, and compostable. Use it wet or dry to clean or dust in the kitchen and bathroom, or any room in the house. It also makes a great baby clean up towel! A great alternative to the wasteful paper towel, it is the natural and reusable way to clean, and best of all, it&#8217;s machine washable! Use it over and over and when it&#8217;s on it&#8217;s last leg, it can safely go in the trash or compost.</p>
<p>An attractive white towel with a green bamboo design, the Eco Towel Bamboo was a named finalist in Green By Design category at the 2008 Gourmet Product Show, but more importantly it replaces landfill-clogging paper towels, throwaway wipes, and microfiber products made from petrochemicals. Made in Germany. Packaged in the U.S.A.</p>
<p>Size: 14&#8243; x 10&#8243;</p>
<p>Includes: 3 bamboo cleaning Eco Towels per package.</p>

<p>In the European market, Suntory has recently launched, Hibiki 12-year old whiskey, aged in <a href="http://www.choya.com/" target="_blank"><em>Umeshu</em> </a>(Japanese plum liquer) casks, and filtered through premium <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo_charcoal" target="_blank">bamboo charcoal</a>.</p>
<p>Filtered with Japanese <a href="http://bambooya.com/bachforhoand.html" target="_blank">bamboo charcoa</a>l, which purifies the water and enhances the flavor, the <a href="http://blog.maltadvocate.com/2009/07/14/suntory-launching-hibiki-12-yo-in-us/" target="_blank">Hibiki </a>premium-blended whiskey range has received 15 gold medals, as well as the 2007 and 2008 title of “The World’s Best Blended Whisky” for the 30-year-old aged whiskey. Hibiki is scheduled to be launched in the U.S. in October 2009.</p>

<p>Bamboo charcoal (activated carbon) also purifies, neutralizes, and deodorizes air in the home, absorbs moisture and humidity, releases negative ions in to the air, cleans and softens water for drinking and laundry, and exfoliates and removes impurities from the skin when used in <a href="http://bambooya.com/bachforskbaa.html" target="_blank">bodycare and soap products</a>!</p>

Baskets</a>)<img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-389" title="100_2145" src="http://bambooya.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/100_2145.jpg?w=231&#038;h=174" alt="100_2145" width="231" height="174" /></p>
<p>Carol, along with her friend and assistant, Kent Stewart, showed us the necessary techniques to clean, cut, split, saw, knock out nodes, smooth, join, and lash bamboo together, using traditional Japanese black hemp twine!</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-390" title="winterspring2009kt-377" src="http://bambooya.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/winterspring2009kt-377.jpg?w=157&#038;h=210" alt="winterspring2009kt-377" width="157" height="210" /></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-393" title="winterspring2009kt-381" src="http://bambooya.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/winterspring2009kt-381.jpg?w=129&#038;h=172" alt="winterspring2009kt-381" width="129" height="172" /></p>
<p>The bamboo poles we used were of different varieties and all were donated from Carol&#8217;s and our classmate&#8217;s gardens, and also from the famous <a href="http://www.biltmore.com/" target="_blank">Biltmore Estate </a>gardens nearby.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-396" title="winterspring2009kt-375" src="http://bambooya.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/winterspring2009kt-375.jpg?w=189&#038;h=141" alt="winterspring2009kt-375" width="189" height="141" /></p>
<p>I made a variation on a common Japanese screen called, <a href="http://www.mastergardenproducts.com/bambooplanksfence.htm" target="_blank">Kenninji-gaki</a>, which uses vertical poles and horizontal split bamboo.  My sister made a <a href="http://www.bamboobuilders.com/open-bamboo-fences.html" target="_blank">Teppo-gaki</a> gate which turned out great as well!</p>
<p><img class="size-medium wp-image-394 alignleft" title="winterspring2009kt-387" src="http://bambooya.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/winterspring2009kt-387.jpg?w=210&#038;h=157" alt="winterspring2009kt-387" width="210" height="157" /></p>
<p>The next day we went to see the <a href="http://www.biltmore.com" target="_blank">Biltmore Estate </a>and and its amazing gardens known for its historic varieties (more than 20) of bamboos!  The gardens were designed by the famous landscape architect <a href="http://www.fredericklawolmsted.com/" target="_blank">Frederick Law Olmsted </a>, known as the Father of  American Landscape Architecture. (photo below right)<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-397" title="dsc01815" src="http://bambooya.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/dsc01815.jpg?w=210&#038;h=158" alt="dsc01815" width="210" height="158" /></p>
<p>Carol is  planning another bamboo class in 2010, so I&#8217;ll keep ya posted! If you are looking to add some beautiful bamboo to your house or garden, please check out Carol&#8217;s book  (see link above), and if you need tools to work with bamboo, try these wonderful traditional saws and cutters at:  <a href="http://www.hidatool.com/shop/shop.html" target="_blank">Hida Tool &amp; Hardware Co., Inc. </a></p>
<p>Thanks Carol, Kent, Jen, and Bamboo Classmates 2009!  Hope to see ya next year!</p>
<p>P.S. I hope all my classmates will send me a photo of their bamboo screens, fences, trellises, and creations so I can post them to the blog in the future!</p>
<p>Have a bamboo day!</p>
